RESUMPTION of works at Chilenje Fire station which had stalled has cheered the residents of Chilenje Township and other surrounding areas.
The residents told the Sun that they were happy with the development works at the fire station despite the pace being slow.
One of the jubilant Chilenje residents and businessman Darius Sichilima said it was important that the fire station was completed because fire services were important in every community.
He said there were a lot of fire incidents that happen in communities that required services from the station.
However, another resident Grace Chibale, described the pace of construction as discouraging because it was taking long to complete after government embarked on the project in 2014.
She said communities were growing every day and there was need to have several fire stations to increase the responses to fires.
She said the Lusaka Central Fire Station was usually overwhelmed because the whole city relied on it to provide effective services.
In 2014, the Lusaka City Council (LCC) under the Ministry of Local Government, embarked on a project of constructing three community fire stations, an initiative aimed at hastening the response to fire incidences.
The planned community fire stations were to be constructed in Chilenje, Chelstone and Matero.
