THE issuance and renewal of planning permission for erection of mobile money booths in Solwezi has been halted by the local authority to bring sanity in the city, says assistant public relations manager Esther Chirwa.
Ms Chirwa said that followed the council’s recent decision to remove all illegally placed and sub-standard booths in the town.
She said the municipality arrived at the decision to ensure that only standard mobile money booths remained in operation.
“The council has identified locations where booths will be sited per locality in order to ensure their placement does not pose as a nuisance to the general public. In so doing, the municipality wants to uphold the beauty of the town.
“Booth owners have therefore been given up to Friday September 6 2019 to remove all illegally placed and sub-standard booths or the council police will move in to remove them,” Ms Chirwa said
Ms Chirwa said according to the Urban and Regional Planning Act No. 3 of 2015, a planning authority may, where a person carries out any development on land, changes the use of land or subdivides it contrary to the act, demolish the structure on land without payment of compensation.
She further urged booth owners that did not attain guidance on the siting of booths to visit the municipality’s department of planning director to avoid booth confiscation.
