EX-HUBBY WRECKS MARRIAGE

THE Boma Local Court in Lusaka has divorced a couple that has been married for six months because the wife’s first husband was interfering in their marriage.

This was a case in which Innocent Moonga, 43, of John Laing sued Enelesi Banda, 33, of SOS, claiming that her former husband was interfering in their marriage.

Moonga told senior local court magistrate Linda Tembo that his wife’s first husband was creating hell in his marriage.

“After we got married, we only stayed together for a short time because there were issues to sort out. Her first husband used to look for me like a needle even when I’m in church,” Moonga said.

He said the man once attacked him with a plank and bruised his face.

He said problems started mostly when his wife brought mealie meal and cooking oil from her ex-husband to their matrimonial home.

“She started looking for faults and even accused me of wanting to sleep with her daughter when I woke up to pee at night. She accused me even when her child told her that I did not do anything,

“She told me she’d been looking for a reason to divorce me. She stopped caring for me and even water to bath. She started denying me sex and told her father that there was no marriage,” Moonga said.

He said his wife ran away from the house where he was paying her rent and refused to show him her new home.

In defence Banda also told the court that she wanted a divorce because she  stopped loving her husband when he tried to have sex with her daughter.

“I came into this marriage with my four daughters. We stayed in a one roomed house. One time he reached home around 23:00hrs and I put water for him to bath. He bathed for over an hour and I almost fell asleep. I noticed he went to peep on my daughter,

“The other time he woke up around 01:00hrs, he was naked and didn’t know that I also awake. He undressed my daughter and removed her pant. I asked him what he was doing and he ran back to our bed,” she said.

She said she could not bear the thought of being with a confused man who tried to sleep with her 12 year old child.

Magistrate Tembo granted the divorce with no compensation because the two did not stay long in the marriage.
