A 30-year-old woman is being held at Sosiot Police Station after she was accused of stabbing her daughter to death.
Belgut OCPD Phillip Okello said the woman from Kiptaldal village in Waldai Ward killed her 10-year-old daughter as she was preparing to report to school for third term.
The minor, a Standard Four pupil at Arise and Shine Academy, suffered several stab wounds inflicted with a kitchen knife during the mid-morning incident.
“The young victim was rushed to Kericho District Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries,” said Mr Okello.
The OCPD added that they were yet to establish the motive behind the suspect’s decision to kill her daughter.
“The suspect has taken a vow of silence and has refused to talk to us (police) or to any of her relatives. We have recovered a blood-stained kitchen knife and kept it as an exhibit,” he said.
Okello said the suspect was handed over to the police for arrest by her neighbours who responded to distress calls from the suspect’s relatives.
The single mother has been living in her father’s compound.
The body was moved to the Kericho County Hospital mortuary.
