A 21-YEAR old woman of Chongwe has sued her brother in-law in the Chelstone Local Court to be given her husband’s death certificate.
Precious Nkonde, 21 a businesswoman has sued Lingstone Chiyokoma,42 a farmer of the same area for refusing to handover her husband’s death certificate.
Nkonde told Presiding magistrate Mary Namangala that she married her husband in 2013 but he died in May 2019, leaving her with two children whom she was living with currently.
But since then she had never set her eyes on the death certificate of her late husband.
“Since my husband died I have never seen his death certificate, I hear it is with his older brother and whenever I ask him he denies giving it to me,
“ I want the certificate so it can help me with my children in case of any help because today a lot of organisations want proof of any death for one to be helped,’’ she said. She said whenever she asked for the document her brother in-law always told her it was in the village she should ask people there for it.
In defence, Chiyokoma denied having but suspected it was in the village. “Since the time my brother died we have never chosen an administrator, he left a plot and some blocks but Nkole sold them, and I am not the one having his death certificate. I can bring it by month end of August,’’ he said.
Court then ordered Chiyokoma to bring the certificate on September 5.
