ZIMBABWE’S women soccer team boycotting of the second leg qualifier against Zambia which was to be played at the National stadium in Harare on Sunday has disappointed Shepolopolo coach Bruce Mwape.
Mwape said it was unfortunate that the second leg of the Tokyo 2020 second round qualifier against Zimbabwe was not played due to a no-show stunt by the host nation’s players.
He said Zimbabwe had denied his team a chance to play a match that was crucial in preparing for the next round with either South Africa or Botswana.
“It is actually very unfortunate, we were much geared for this game but this kind of arrangement is not acceptable where a nation can fail to raise up a team and fail to fulfill their fixture,”
“Our girls were mentally prepared for game as they were gunning for a win,” Mwape said
The women soccer team coach said his focus was now on his team’s next opponents between Botswana and South Africa.
And striker Misozi Zulu who plies her trade in Europe said the girls were disappointed with the outcome of their travel.
She said her team had prepared for the game and wanted to play.
Zambia won the first leg 5-0 in Lusaka but could not get the opportunity to finish off the tie as the Zimbabwean team failed to raise a team after some clubs withdrew their players 24 hours before the match.
The two teams would now have to wait for FIFA to make its ruling after the match commissioner Lida Manjate from Mozambique called off the game.
Botswana and South Africa drew 0-0 in the first leg in Gaborone with the second leg set for today.
