UNIVERSITIES in Zambia should prioritize research activities in order to develop the nation, says Zambia Research and Development Centre (ZRDC) director of research Richard Silumbe.
Dr Silumbe explained that research played a pivotal role in addressing social and economic challenges.
Speaking in Lusaka during Texila American University’s Knowledge Talk Series, held under the theme:, “The role of research in national development” ,Dr. Silumbe said Zambia could not achieve meaningful development if higher learning institutions did not invest in research.
He further stressed the need for universities to be innovative and creative in order to offload graduates that would not wait for government to employ them.
“Universities should continuously evolve to provide education fit for the future. Research skills, creative skills, innovation skills are key in preparing students for the future,” Dr Silumbe said.
