A 73-YEAR-OLD man of Lusaka who failed to deliver a plot after collecting K15,000 from a customer appeared in the Lusaka Magistrates Court.
He is charged with obtaining K15,000 by false pretenses.
It is alleged that Robert Zulu, of Kabanana Township, obtained the money from Samuel Mwanza by pretending that he had a plot for sale.
When asked by principal resident magistrate Mwaka Mikalile during plea Zulu admitted receiving the money from Mwanza but said he had not intentionally failed to deliver it.
Magistrate Mikalile also asked Zulu how much money he had received for the plot from Mwanza.
Zulu said Mwanza had paid him K15,000 cash.
H, however, said he did not know the plot had been repossessed by the headman.
That was why he had failed to sell it to Mwanza.
Zulu said he had explained the situation to Mwanza and promised to refund him the money.
“Mr Mwanza advised me that I should sell the same land so that I could repay him the money,” he said.
Magistrate Mikalile entered the plea of not guilty following his explanation and adjourned the matter to September 9 for continued hearing.
