THE man who is alleged to have vandalized a ZESCO power line in Macha area of Choma has appeared in in the Choma Magistrates Court charged with vandalism
This is in a case in which Mosho Chiyala 30 of Masekese village in Chief Mapanza’s Chiefdom stands charged with vandalism contrary to section 341 Chapter 87 of the Penal Code of the Laws of Zambia.
Particulars of the offence are that on dates unknown but July 18 and 19 Mosho is alleged to have vandalized one electricity pole valued at K2, 500 the property of ZESCO.
When the matter came up for mention and possible committal to the High Court, public prosecutor Dexter Kwalela informed the court that the State had not yet received instructions from the Director of Public Prosecution.
Senior Resident Magistrate Idah Mupemo adjourned the matter to September 13 for another mention. Mosho was remanded in custody
Earlier President Edgar Lungu expressed shock over the cutting down of Zesco power line in Southern Province describing it as an economic sabotage.
The Head of State told journalists in Livingstone that the acts of vandalism were politically motivated.
He said that his administration was striving to take development to all parts of Zambia without leaving anyone behind.
President Lungu said that it was unfortunate that some people did not want to embrace development just because they were politically inclined.
