A 51-YEAR-old man of Nakonde District, in Muchinga Province, is nursing gunshot wounds after being reportedly shot at by his own son over suspicion he bewitched his son.

Muchinga Province Police Commissioner, Joel Njase, confirmed the incident and said Simbeye, of Tefwe Village, strongly suspected his own son, Ronald, 33, to have tried to kill him as he had been accusing him of bewitching him.

Mr Njase said the incident happened on Thursday, Aug 29, around 24:00 hours at Tefwe Village, Mukalize area in Nakonde District.

Mr Njase explained that Mr Simbeye reportedly heard someone knocking on his door and window after he retired to bed, before opening fire at him.

“He woke up and went to check who was knocking but as he opened the door, the suspect had already forced the window open and opened fire at him,” Mr Njase said

Mr Njase said Mr Simbeye sustained gunshot wounds on the right hand.

He said the victim explained that the door acted as a shield and saved him from further injury by direct shots.

“The victim explained that the door is very close to the window so that when it is wide open, it overlaps the window therefore the 17 pellets fired got stuck on the door,” he said.

Mr Njase said Mr Simbeye strongly suspected his biological son to be behind the shooting as he had been accusing him of bewitching his deceased son.

The Police Commissioner explained that Ronald is reported to have consulted a witchdoctor who named his father as being behind the death of his son.

“Acting on this report, the police officers issued the victim with a medical report form, ZP FORM 32,” said Mr Njase who described the victim’s condition as stable.

He said no docket has been opened on the case or arrest made.
