THE newly restructured 2019/2020 Zambian super league season, kicks off this weekend and promises sparks and thrills.
The Zambian league comes to life after a one month pause following the close of the short transitional league at the end of June.
The restructured league came about following the change in calendar as a result of CAF directives which will see the season transition from March-November to August- May.
The restructured league will see new comers Kansanshi Dynamos gracing the Zambian elite competition for the first time in the club’s history after earning promotion out of the Zone 2 Division one.
Kansanshi opens its account in the Zambian league with a fixture against six-time league champions Power Dynamos in Solwezi.
Dynamo’s debut game won’t be as memorable as the Solwezi based side would want it to be because of a sanction from FAZ which will see the side play in an empty stadium.
The Zone two champions will have to play in an empty stadium for two games following as result of stadium trouble by club fans.
On the other hand Power will be looking for a dream start having had to play the last six years without any silverware.
A win for Power against the new comers will boost the Kitwe side’s title aspirations and make a statement ahead of a season which runs up to next year.
A pick of the weekend could be a clash of the two rivals Zesco United and Zanaco who have now played each other four times this year
Zanaco will be looking to claim dominance over their rivals who they beat a forty night ago in the charity shield finals.
Zesco have been dominant in the last four meetings this year having won two of the games with one draw and a loss.
A win for either side would boost their title aspirations and also be a good preparatory for their continental engagements later this month.
