RUMOURS suggesting that the former Chirundu district commissioner Alfred Hamunjo lost his job because he accepted a donation of about 500 by 25kg of mealie meal from Enlightened Christian Gathering spearheaded by Malawian prophet Shepherd Bushiri should be treated with the contempt they deserve.
Acting district commissioner O’Neil Chiya, who is district administration officer, said the truth was that Mr Hamunjo’s contract came to end and was not renewed.
Mr Chiya said the community must ignore the article on some social media purporting that Mr Hamunjo’s contract was terminated.
He said the district administration office was not aware of the allegations and distanced itself from such false information aimed at misleading the community.
And Hamunjo confirmed that his contract expired and that was why he was relieved of his duties.
Meanwhile, some Chirundu residents have wished the former DC well in his future endeavors.
Mr Clayton Mwiinga of Sikoongo ward described Mr Hamunjo as a hardworking and very humble man who always wanted peace and resolved disputes amicably.
And Mrs. Ireen Mbozi of Simaundu village also praised Mr Hamunjo for being a good leader who handled well matters in the district during both good and bad times.
She has urged other members of the community to continue praying for him as he was still a leader of the district.
