THE Choma Magistrates Court has slapped a one year sentence on woman who roughed up her husband’s mistress after fishing her out of the Seventh Day Adventist9SDA) Church Service for suspected marriage interference.
This was in a case in which Inonge Nyambe was jailed for assaulting Abby Mweemba.
When the matter came up for judgment before Resident Magistrate Ethel Phiri, the Court found Nyambe guilty and jailed her to 12 months imprisonment but suspended for 24 months during which she should not commit any offence.
In her sentencing her Magistrate Phiri said Nyambe’s conduct was uncalled for, and not only was it embarrassing to herself but also to the Church and women at large especially that they were fighting over a man.
According to facts the incident happened on July 27 2019 when Mweemba was in Church.
According to Mweemba’s testimony, she was called from the ongoing church service that someone wanted to see her outside.
When she went outside she found Nyambe who asked her what kind of relationship she was having with her husband Cornwell Kachemba to which she said he was her fiancé.
That infuriated Nyambe who immediately descended on her by biting her fingers leaving her bleeding profusely.
Nyambe then picked up a stone and threw it at her but luckily she missed and it hit her husband before the two were separated by members of the Church.
