A 26-YEAR OLD woman of Lusaka’s Ng’ombe Township has sued her husband of one year for divorce alleging that he beats her and sleeps with his ex-wife.
This is a case in which Remedy Haliyonda sued Ronson Mweemba,36 a mechanic from the same area for divorce.
Haliyonda told Chelstone Local Court presiding magistrate Mary Namangala that the two have one child together and that dowry was not paid.
She said they have been having marital disputes in their marriage since the time her husband started bringing his ex-wife home for sex.
“The main problem that brought me here is, my husband still communicates with his ex-wife and sometimes he bring her home and whenever I question him he beats me,
“At one point he brought his ex-wife and threw me out of the house and they slept together. They separated a long time ago, though they have five children together and I did not refuse to take care of the kids but the problem is when he comes with her she also wants to sleep in the same house with us,” she said.
Haliyonda said Mwemba even had the guts to tell her to sleep on the floor while he slept on the bed with his former wife.
In defence, Mweemba said his wife did want his children and insulted him a lot.
“My wife insults me a lot and has made me to sleep in police cells several times,” he said.
Both however said they still wanted each other and court advised them to sue from the subordinate court because there was no marriage between the two since dowry was not paid.
