A BURUNDESE man has pleaded guilty to three counts of concealing true identity, unlawful stay in Zambia and false passport declaration.
Gerald Niyungabo, 19, of Mtendere East pleaded guilty to the three counts before magistrate Nsunge Chanda,
Niyungabo admitted producing a passport which showed that he Zambian when in fact not.
He also admitted staying in Zambia illegally as he did not have a permit and made false declaration when he presented a Zambia National registration card to obtain a passport.
Niyungabo said he got the passport from the passport office in town because he had a Zambia National registration card(NRC) he said.
When asked by Magistrate Chanda where he got the NR from, Niyungabo said he got it in 2009 in Mambwe.
Niyungabo said he came to Zambia in 2004, when he was four years old.
“I came with my uncle, he told me I was coming to meet my relatives. He is a businessman but when we arrived in Zambia he became broke , he abandoned me. I am not a Zambian, I was born in Burundi,” he said.
Niyungabo said he lied to the officers by saying he was a Zambian when not.
