CHIRUNDU Town Council (CTC) has warned residents to desist from vandalising the Lusitu water reticulation site.
Council secretary John Mwanza said in a telephone interview some unknown people had stolen some parts from the engine spare parts at the pump.
Mr Mwanza was speaking after touring the site at Pambazana Village in Chief Chipepo’s area.
He said he was disappointed at the reports of vandalism and theft by known local people.
Mr Mwansa, who was accompanied by the council chairperson Robson Sianduba, said the suspects ran away after they received news that he would tour the water reticulation site in the company of police.
He said the suspects reportedly wanted to sell the spare parts as scrap metal.
Mr Mwanza said he was dismayed that the same people who had been complaining about lack of clean drinking water were the ones now frustrating efforts to provide the commodity.
He said the suspects were currently on the run but the matter had been reported to the police.
And Chief Chipepo of the Tonga people of Chirundu district, Lusaka Province, has urged the Church to pray for co-existence between his subjects and those of Chief Sikoongo.
Chief Chipepo said his subjects should embrace the spirit of prayer as it uplifted and united people.
He announced that his chiefdom would host prayer meetings last weekend at the Pambazana Shed in Ngombe Illede Ward to pray for unity.
The service would also pray for chiefs and headmen to be delivered from the evil spirits surrounding them.
He invited people from the Sikoongo and Chipepo chiefdoms to turn up in numbers to attend the prayer meeting, which he said would be peaceful and safe.
