POLICE have launched a manhunt for a man identified as Stanley White for allegedly torching two thatched houses in Samfya district of Luapula Province.
Police acting spokesperson Danny Mwale confirmed receiving a report of arson in which two houses in Mwanayama and Chitambala villages were burnt to ashes.
Mr Mwale explained that the first house belonged to Gilbert Muonga, 69 of Mwanayama Village, while the second one belonged to Dennis Chabu ,37 of Chitambala village Chief Kasoma Bangweulu in Samfya district.
He said both incidents happened on Sunday at around 22:55 hours.
“A manhunt for a suspect identified as Stanley White has been launched and police are appealing to members of public who may have information of the whereabouts of the suspect to report to any nearest police station,’ said Mr Mwale.
And one person has died, while three others sustained injuries in a fatal road traffic accident which happened on Great North Road in Mazabuka on Monday around 17:00 hours.
Involved was a Mazda Tribute registration number ALX 4657 which was being driven by Kenneth Masapo aged 42 of Chindwin Barracks Kabwe, heading towards Kafue with four passengers on board.
Mr Mwale said one passenger identified as Misozi Mapulanga of the same barracks sustained fatal injuries and died on reaching Victoria Hospital in Mazabuka.
Three other passengers identified as Brian Siabula, 23 of Livingstone, Noah Simfukwe and a boy aged 13 sustained injuries.
He said the accident occurred when the driver failed to negotiate a curve due to excessive speeding and careered off the road causing the vehicle to overturn several times. The motor vehicle was extensively damaged and body of Mapulanga has been deposited in mortuary awaiting postmortem.
