A POLICE officer only identified Martin Mtonga aged 25 of Shiwang’andu police station in Muchinga Province has died in a road traffic accident after being hit by a motor vehicle.
Acting Police spokesperson, Danny Mwale said Mr Mtonga was hit by a motor vehicle Toyota Harrier registration number ABT 9836 which was being driven by Brisco Mubanga aged 23 of Trench Town, Mpika District, as he was trying to cross the road.
In a statement Mr Mwale said the incident occurred on August 20, around 10:00 hours on Great North Road opposite Shiwang’andu Police station.
“What happened was that Mr Mtonga was crossing the road a when he was hit by a motor vehicle. He sustained head injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at Shiwang’andu clinic,” he said.
Mr Mwale said the driver had been detained and was in custody while the body of Mr Mtonga has been deposited in Chinsali District Hospital awaiting postmortem.
