POLICE OFFICER LEFT FOR DEAD

OLIVER SAMBOKO writes

ONE of four Police officers recently deployed to Siavonga is nursing serious wounds after he was badly beaten by a messenger of district commissioner Lovemore Kanyama on Sunday night when the two fought following a misunderstanding.

The messenger identified as Likando Likando has since been arrested by the local Police and charged with assault on a Police officer.

According to information obtained by the Sun the two had a big misunderstanding at the house they were sharing before engaging in a physical fight that left the police officer half dead.

Mr Kanyama confirmed the incident and said both combatants were new in Siavonga and had only spent less than 14 days together.

The district commissioner said that his office would not tolerate indiscipline among the newly deployed officers to the district.

He has since written to Southern Province Permanent secretary Mwangala Liomba seeking to redeploy the quarrelsome messenger to another district.

Mr. Kanyama has further warned of disciplinary action against civil servants in the district who were in the habit of drinking while on duty, saying those found wanting will be reported to the permanent secretary.

By press time the injured police officer was still admitted to Siavonga district hospital for treatment.
