TWO murder suspects of Mpika who allegedly shot dead a Chilonga Mission Hospital acting human resource officer early this month have died after jumping off a moving police vehicle.
Muchinga Province police commissioner Joel Njase who confirmed the incident said the episode happened on Monday at 12:45 hours.
Mr Njase named the two as Elijah Nondo Mwiko 40 and Peter Mukuka Mwiko, 28 who were facing an attempted murder charge.
The men jumped to their death as they were being taken for scene reconstruction in Chilonga where hey were alleged to have shot the officer and robbed him of K15, 000.
“As they were going to the scene, the two suspects who were handcuffed jumped out of the moving motor vehicle to their death,” Mr Njase said.
Mr Njase said the driver was signaled by the officers who were behind to stop.
He said the two Mwikos who appeared to be in great pain were picked and rushed to Mpika urban Clinic and Michael Chilufya Sata Hospital respectively where they died within hours after the incident.
Mr Njase said police have opened an inquiry and that the officers involved namely detective Inspector Munga James, Detective Sergeant Simachulu Josam, Detective Constable Nkweto, Detective Sergeant Chanda and Constable Mulenga have since been warned and cautioned for the subject offence and later detained awaiting postmortem examination results.
