A WOMAN of 10 miles who has been longing for a supportive husband has been divorced in the Matero Local Court and warded K15,000 in compensation.
Given Ngabwe of 10 miles was testifying in a case in which his wife, Annet Lungu sued him for divorce after separating for a month.
However, Ngabwe said that he still loves his wife, Lungu.
The two got married in 1999 and have five children.
Lungu told Senior Court Magistrates Pauline Newa and Harriet Mulenga at Matero Local Court that problems started in 20103.
This was after the sister of Ngabwe who was supporting her died and he started stopping her going to church and that later he accused her of flirting with a Pastor and his brother.
“The village head woman tried to sit us down to resolve the matter but Ngabwe doesn’t change, he says that I am a prostitute and when I want something from him he says that I should ask the Pastor to buy for me,” said Lungu.
In defence Ngabwe said that problems started in 2018 because Lungu said that I should choose friends for her and became rude.
He explained that when sugar got finished the other day Lungu complained and said it was better she got married to a man who could provide for her.
The court said that there was lack of communication because people needed to talk to iron out issues.
The court granted the couple divorce because Lungu did not want to continue in marriage with Ngabwe.
Ngabwe was ordered to compensate Lungu with K15, 000 with initial payment of K1, 000 followed by monthly installments K450 and to be paying children maintenance fee of K500 per month. Households acquired together to be shared equally.
