THE issue of security has become a major concern for ZESCO as it impacts on its present and future business success, says managing director Victor Mundende.
Mr Mudende said new sophisticated economic crimes were emerging, targeting the assets of the corporation
He was speaking at the official opening of a six days basic law and police training workshop for 200 Zesco officers from different provinces held in Ndola to protect the corporation’s assets from vandalism.
Her said it was imperative and t the newly trained officers were ideally equipped to safe guard ZESCO’s assets.
He said that vandalism remained a big threat to the company’s infrastructure, citing over 300 cases of vandalism that the company had recorded between January to June.
Mr Mundende said the training had come at the right time when ZESCO had waged a war to tackle the serious crimes of vandalism of the company assets, theft and other related crimes that had resulted in serious financial losses for the company.
He further urged the trainees to be prepared to deal with a wide variety of critical incidents such as tampering with company products which were on the rise.
The training was organised by the security department of Zesco in conjunction with the Copperbelt Zambia Police Service.-ZANIS
