JUNKIES WORRY INTER-CITY TRADERS

NCHIMUNYA CHIDAKWA writes

JUNKIES have continued harassing traders and stealing within the Inter-City Bus Terminus market, the traders have complained.

Inter City Bus Terminus traders have lodged a complaint with the Lusaka City Council (LCC) about continued harassment and thefts by junkies in the area.

The traders have asked the LCC to increase market and bus station patrols in the affected places to keep junkies away.

Some traders interviewed by the Sun complained that the problem of junkies had magnified because authorities had been ignoring the issue on the assumption that they were dealing with children.

They have called for stiff penalties for the junkies found harassing travelers or traders in the area.

“The LCC representatives here do charge adults who are found insulting and fighting and so people have behaved themselves, manje utu tweve sitizaba nganti tuza tukwani bwanji (but for the junkies we do not know how we will manage them),” complained one trader only identified as Mrs Mwape.

Mrs Mwape complained that she lost K600 and that her neighbours were also robbed by suspected junkies.
