“As a country we should seriously start considering criminalizing adultery in order to safeguard the institution of marriage,” a traditional leader in southern province has suggested.
Siavonga’s Kanyelele compound section D headman, Rodgers Kandama said as a Christian nation, Zambia must follow the Bible teaching if the country was to be blessed.
He said the marriage was sacred and therefore must be protected by passing a law that would provide for the jailing of perpetual adulterers.
Headman Kandama said the, “You shall not commit adultery” is one of the Ten Commandments in the Bible and that according to the Book of Genesis, marriage is a union established by God himself.
“The Bible teaching is very clear on adultery. Even Just by envying or looking at someone’s wife or husband lustfully, one commits adultery,” he stressed.
He said many marriages have broken down because of unfaithfulness and infidelity among married couples that has led to the country to keep recording high number of divorces and gender based violence(GBV).
The traditional leader further attributed the high number of street children in the country to broken families caused by infidelity adding that government must move in by criminalizing the act.
