Pregnancy costs Ng’ombe man K3, 500

LUCY PHIRI writes

FOR causing pregnancy, a man of Lusaka’s Roma residential area has been fined K3, 500 by a local court.

Owen Mundia, 25 was sued in the Chelstone Local Court by Justina Chanda,39, of Ng’ombe Township for putting his daughter in a family way.

Chanda told local court presiding magistrate Mary Namangala that Mundia impregnated his daughter in June last year.

“Mundia impregnated my daughter in June, 2018 and since then he has been running away and never picks my calls,

“He never used to support his baby, we charged him K6,500 damage but he is still owing us that money,” she said.

Chanda said at one time the child got sick and unfortunately it died, but Mundia still did not show up even after informing him about the death of his child, adding that he only showed up after being served with court summons.

In defence Mundia admitted the allegations but said he could not to pay the K6, 500.

“My girlfriend did not inform me about the child’s sickness or death. I only heard that my daughter had died and couldn’t manage to come over because I was far away from town,” he said.

On hearing from both sides, the court ordered Mundia to pay K3,500 with K400 as first installment seeing that the child in question  had died.
