GOVT HANDS OVER CHIKANKATA MODERN MARKET

ANDREW MUKOMA writes

GOVERNMENT has handed over a modern market to Chikankata Town Council in Southern Province after its completion, says provincial deputy permanent secretary Kennedy Mubanga.

Mr Mubanga said he handed over the facility to the local authority at the weekend.

He told the Sun in Livingstone yesterday said that the project which was funded by the Germany government (KFW) was the second to be completed on time by a Zambian contractor.

“I am pleased to inform you that Mofan Suppliers Limited have become the second Zambian contractor to complete and handover a KFW day Market in Chikankata,

“The number of completed projects now stands at three out of the eleven in Southern Province,” Mr Mubanga said.

He said that for a very long time, Chikankata never used to have a modern market until now.

Mr Mubanga said that government had made it priority to deliver development to the people of Zambia regardless of their area or political affiliation.

He said that the people of Chikankata would now have somewhere to trade from and urged them to guard the property jealously.

Mr Mubanga commended Kaplum and Associates Ltd Consulting Engineers Architects and Project Managers for being the sole KFW consulting firm to deliver a record of three out of four projects they were contracted to supervise in a very professional and competent manner.

“We urge other consulting engineering firms on the other eight projects to take a leaf from Kaplum and help the contractors deliver the projects for our people to actualize the development that Government of Zambia with its partners have initiated,” he said.
