SOME farmers in Kabwe have blamed the hunger situation on some agro dealers that swaddled them of their bags of fertilizer by redeeming them on their behalf.
Justine Mweemba, a farmer of Kang’omba peri-urban said hunger was looming in the area because some of his colleagues did not get their fertilizer although the system showed that they did.
He was speaking when area Member of Parliament (MP), Sydney Mushanga held a community meeting in the area at the weekend.
But Mr Mushanga who is Central Province Minister assured the people that the provincial administration would get to the bottom of the matter.
The Bwacha MP said he would ensure that all the agro dealers that swindled farmers in Kang’omba area were identified and brought to book because they committed a criminal offence.
“As provincial administration we will find out the names of the offending agro dealers and resolve the matter so that you get your money back,” said Mr Mushanga.
He however urged farmers not to despair but to deposit the K400 for the 2019/2020 farming season with genuine agro dealers.
Mr Mushanga also took time to explain the Presidential directive to ensure that farmers under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) begun to obtain their fertilizer next month in readiness for the coming farming season.
