THE Chilenje Local Court has ordered a Lusaka man to pay K3, 300 rental arrears he owes a businesswoman of Lusaka.
Mary Zuze, 56 of New Chilenje sued Peter Lubinda, 39, of Garden Chilulu to be paid the money he owed her in rentals
She told senior local court magistrate Harriet Mbewe sitting with presiding local court magistrate Patrick Nyirenda, that Lubinda was her tenant.
She said Lubinda defaulted in November last year and was now her three months rental arrears amounting to K3,300.
“He vacated my house the same month without informing me. I have given him enough time, I want my money. He has delayed the project of renovating the house,’’ she said.
In defence, Lubinda said he did not inform Zuze when he shifted because he did not have money to pay her.
He said Zuze was her landlord for five years and did not want to destroy the relationship they had created hence his failure to respond to her messages.
“She started calling me asking for the money. I told her that I wasn’t working but promised to pay her when I receive money from my former employers,
“I request from the court that I pay the money in installments, I can’t manage to pay the whole amount at once,’’ he said.
The court ordered Lubinda to pay rental arrears he owed effective September with the first installment of K500.
