SIMON MUNTEMBA WRITES
ZESCO Limited has attained its one millionth customer milestone by connecting the one millionth customer to the national grid, says the public relations manager, Hazel Zulu.
And Mrs Zulu has affirmed ZESCO’s resolve to quickly respond to the needs of its customers and match the electricity demand with supply.
Mrs Zulu told the Sun in a statement that the landmark achievement was realized on July 27, 2019 in line with one of ZESCO’s strategic focus areas of growing its business portfolio by increasing the customer base.
“ZESCO Limited is delighted to inform its customers, stakeholders and the general public that the Corporation has attained its one millionth customer milestone by connecting the one millionth customer to the national grid,” Mrs Zulu announced.
She said the corporation has witnessed growth of about 400 percent between 2000 and 2019, with the customer base increasing from 200, 000 in the year 2000, to about 900, 000 in the year 2018 and consequently 1, 000, 000 customers this year.
Mrs Zulu attributed the exponential growth to sound growth policies of the Government of Zambia which had led to massive infrastructural development across the country.
“The customer base increase can also be attributed to various electrification projects undertaken with other Cooperating partners such as the Increased Access to Electricity Services (IAES) funded by the World Bank (WB) and the Japanese International Corporation Agency (JICA); World Bank Global Partnership on Output Based Aid (GPOBA) and the Electricity Services Access Project (ESAP) all aimed at improving access to electricity for all,” she said.
In addition, Mrs Zulu said, ZESCO has over the years embarked on a number of projects in generation, transmission and distribution which has seen the number of customers accessing electricity services increase drastically.
“We are excited about this development as it affirms our resolve to quickly respond to the needs of our customers and match the electricity demand with supply.”
ZESCO would like to thank all its customers, stakeholders and the general public for their unwavering support and partnership in ensuring that we increase access to electricity and live by our mission of “Making it easy for people to live a better life,” Mrs Zulu said.
