SIMON MUNTEMBA writes

A 51-YEAR-OLD general worker at Lueti Rural Health Centre in Sikongo District, in Western Province, has been detained in connection with the death of his girlfriend in unclear circumstances.

John Kanunga, of Tutondo Village in Chief Malala’s area, was picked by police in Kalabo after his girlfriend, identified as Fenny Wamunyima, 31, was found dead in his house.

Kalabo Police Officer-in-charge, Daniel Mutondo, confirmed the detention of Mr Kanunga saying the suspect was being held to help police with investigations into the death of his girlfriend of Lueti area.

Mr Mutondo said Fenny died around 02:00 hours on Tuesday, July 30, at her boyfriend’s residence after a suspected fight.

He said Fenny was Brought-in-Dead (BID) to Kalabo Police Station where officers issued a form for her body to be deposited into Kalabo District Hospital mortuary.

Mr Mutondo further said the deceased’s relatives who inspected the body in the mortuary suspected foul play and reported the suspect to the police for investigations.
