A TEN-YEAR old boy of Chikumbi area has died after a wall of unfinished building collapsed on him while he was playing with friends.
Cephas Situbama died at Chingwere clinic where he was rushed after a wall of a building under construction few metres from his home fell on him.
Uncle of the deceased Nicholas Situbama said up to now the family was in shock and did not really know what transpired.
He said Cephas escorted his sister to get lemons from near his home but while there he left her to go and play with his friends in a building which was under construction.
“Cephas anapelekeza sister wake kuenda kutyola ma lemon so pamene sister wako ezo tyola malemon, iye anayenda muchinyumba kusobela so sister wake sana ikileko nzelu anavelachabe apunda Cephas koma futi safakeko nzelu manje kamuzake kanatamanga kuuza bantu ati Cephas yamu fyanta mabloko.”
(Cephas escorted his older sister to go and get lemons nearby but while she was doing so, Cephas went to play in unfinished building. His sister just heard him screaming but she did bother to find out because what she knew was that he was playing until a his friend told people that blocks had fallen on him)
Mr Situbama said the deceased was found lying on the ground and was immediately rushed to a nearby clinic where he later died.
He explained that so far there was no foul play suspected hence a post-mortem had not been conducted on Cephas body.
He further said that Cephas did not suffer any external injuries and assumed that he had internal chest damages.
Mr Situbama said the family was not sure how the wall fell on the boy as there were few blocks that were found on the ground.
“For now it is not yet known whether the wall collapsed on him while standing or Cephas climbed on top of the wall which later collapsed thereby injuring him as his friends only saw him lying on the ground in anguish. He has since been buried at a burial site nearby,” Mr Situbama.
