POLICE are hunting for a man believed to have stabbed to death a 14-year old boy of Lusaka’s New Kanyama compound identified as Felix Mwilambwe.

Police spokesperson Esther Katongo said police were doing everything possible to ensure that the culprit was brought to book.

Ms Katongo also advised the residents of the compound to report the suspect to police if they knew where he was hiding.

She said better still the residents were free to apprehend the suspect and take him to police by making a citizen arrest.

But Felix’s father Emil Mwilambwe expressed displeasure over the delays in apprehending the known suspect.

Mr Mwilambwe said his son met his death after he was invited by his friend to a game of soccer on his knocking off from school.

“That is how my son who was a goalkeeper went to play soccer with his friends and his team scored the first goal but it was disputed by the other team.

He said Felix’s team scored another goal but the opponents again refused to accept it because apparently they had agreed that the team that would win the match would get a K5.

“That was how my son’s team declared to have won the match and got the K5 after announcing that the game was over,” said Mr Mwilambwe

He said his son came back home but later left for his friend’s house that was in the same team with him.

He said Felix was told that his friend had left home and his son decided to follow his friend not knowing that his team mate was being attacked by some players in the team that lost the match.

“The attackers started chasing the two boys with the aim of stabbing any of them with a knife,

“Unfortunately, my son could not run faster and that is how he was hit with a stick. He fell down and was stabbed with a knife,” he said

Mr Mwilambwe said the older brother of his son’s friend heard some noises and rushed to the scene and found Felix had been stabbed with the knife and was lying in a pool of blood.

“He picked up my son and rushed him to the nearby clinic, he left him there and went back to the compound and managed to apprehend the suspected and surrendered him to the police.

That same night his son was transferred to the University Teaching Hospitals (UTH) as was in a critical condition but died a few hours later.

However, the person he suspected to have stabbed my son confessed that it was actually his young brother who committed the crime.

He said however that he was surprised that the grandmother of the person who killed my son rushed to the police and said they people wanted to kill her.

She slept at the police station and the following day she shifted taking with her the person who killed his son.

He suspected it was the same woman one who advised his grandchild to run away because he had committed a crime.

“I am appealing to police officers to do their job and not leave the criminals on the loose,” said Mr Mwilambwe.

He further said his son’s friends who wanted to stand as witnessed were being threatened by the family of the suspect.

But when reached for a comment, Ms Katongo said the police were doing everything possible to ensure that the culprit was brought to book.

“It sometimes takes time for us to find the perpetrators of crime. So as police, we are looking for this person it’s a matter which is still under investigation,” she said.
