DIRTY shops in Kasempa risk being shut down if owners do not comply with the cleanliness standards set by the local authority, Council chairperson Stanley Kaindu has warned.
Mr Kaindu warned shop owners and traders to comply in keeping their surroundings clean and tidy.
In a press statement made available to the Sun Newspaper, Mr Kaindu said the council after communicating to shop owners and traders about observing cleanliness, observed that many of them had not complied with the advice.
Mr Kaindu said that soon the local authority would be left with no option but to close such filthy trading premises.
“I would like to encourage residents from all walks of life to fully participate in the cleaning exercise and not to leave it only to us as it was government’s programme to keep our living and working areas clean,” he said.
Mr Kaindu said keeping of public places dirty and untidy should not be tolerated as it posed serious health risks.
He further asked residents to participate in the ‘Keep Kasempa Clean, Green and Healthy’ campaign and always turn up in gratifying numbers to support the initiative.
