SUPER league Lusaka Dynamos FC was on Sunday afternoon crowned winners of the inaugural Jones Chilengi Foundation Cup whose tournament was played at Edwin Imboela Stadium.
The four-day charity tournament which started on Thursday last week featured a mixture of super league and division one sides which comprised Green Buffaloes, NAPSA Stars, Police College, Malaiti Rangers, and MUZA.
In the first game, Lusaka beat Green Buffaloes 1-0 on Thursday before drawing with Police College 1-1 on Friday, they then beat MUZA 1-0 in the final.
In other games, NAPSA beat MUZA one-nil courtesy of outgoing transitional league top scorer Laudt Mavugo who scored in the first half of the game.
In the second games on Saturday NAPSA lost to Rangers 1-0, therefore, finishing bottom of the table, resulting in Rangers and MUZA both finishing on three points.
Group B saw Dynamos topping with Green Buffaloes finishing second while Police College lay at the bottom of the table.
Dynamos accumulated four points, while GBFC had had three with Police at the bottom sharing a point each.
Winning the tournament has given Dynamos some morale boost ahead of the upcoming new soccer season after having had to finish last season on a disappointing note following their administrative loss of six of their points at the hands of FAZ and FIFA disciplinary bodies.
The Chilengi sports initiative was used also to create awareness on how soccer players could acquire life survival skills after retirement.
The competition also aimed at honoring late former national soccer team captain J Chilengi who captained the national side in the 1980’s.
