Uncleared trucks choke Chirundu border

LILLIAN CHIKANDI writes

@SunZambian

LONG queue of trucks stretching to about five kilometres have congested Chirundu border post due to delays by the Zimbabwean Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) to clear them.

District commissioner Mr. Alfred Hamunjo who confirmed the state of affairs said after consulting the new Chirundu Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) Chirundu assistant commissioner Joe Simwanza, it was established that  the problem was with the Zimbabweans.

Mr Hamunjo said that the Zimbabwean authority’s truck yard was full of trucks crossing to Zimbabwe and South Africa and could not accommodate anymore trucks.

Speaking to the Sun in a telephone interview yesterday, Mr Hamunjo said the security wings were stopping trucks five kilometers away from the border to protect the bridge and avoid worsening congestion.

He has appealed to the residents not to panic over the situation

Meanwhile the slow traffic flow of trucks and congestion on the Chirundu T2 road has now entered day three, irking mostly local motorists and international drivers who were being monitored on satellite demanding that ZIMRA should quickly rectify there slow system of clearing.
