THE Boma Local Court in Lusaka has settled a case in which a man of Garden sued his ex-girlfriend for her to tell her in court who was the father of her unborn child.

Isaac Sakala, 22, sued Lister Lunda, 18, of Garden House.

Sakala told senior local court magistrate Martha Tembo Lunda was carrying his child but later moved in with another man who she said was the father of her unborn child.

Sakala told the court that in November, 2018 when he was in a relationship with Lunda, she told him she was pregnant and when they tested together, they found that she was three weeks pregnant.

“Her grandma chased her so she mostly used to sleep at my place. She later went to Kabwe and I used to send her money most times. At six months, she told me she had miscarried but I didn’t see any papers from the hospital,” he said.

Sakala said when he called Lunda’s sister, she told him Lister was not at her aunt’s house but was living with another man.

“When I used to ask her about the pregnancy, she even used to send me photos.  I told her to come back because she was almost due. That’s when she told me I wasn’t the real father of the child and that she was staying with the real father,” Sakala said.

Lunda told the court that when she found out she was pregnant her sister told her that Sakala’s mother had told their mother that if at all she was to terminate the pregnancy, they would take her to court.

“My mother chased me from home and I was taken to Isaac’s place. In February after Isaac and I fought, I told him the pregnancy wasn’t his. We always used to argue a lot and he stopped talking to me,” she said.

“I went to my mother’s place and drunk poison because I didn’t like the way Isaac was treating me. My mother also never used to talk to me,” Lunda said.

Lunda said Sakala told her he would accept the pregnancy even if it wasn’t his because he loved her.

“I used to have heavy bleeding after that time and when I went to the hospital, they told me I had an incomplete abortion so I was put on some medication,” she said.

After some time she went for scanning and was told the pregnancy was still developing and was five months old.

Sakala told the court he wanted Lunda to go and tell his family that the baby was not his.

He also said he wanted her to compensate him for all the money he had spent on the pregnancy which was never his.

The court settled the reconciliation as Lunda had mentioned who the real father was.

Sakala’s claim for compensation was, however, not upheld and Lunda went home with the real father of the child.
