ALL IS set for this year’s Zambia Super League fans soccer tournament to be held today at the Mufulira Rugby Club.
Mufulira Wanderers Supporters Society chairperosn George Katongo said this year’s tournament would be hosted by his team.
Last year’s event was hosted by Kabwe Warriors.
Katongo said the bi-annual tournament was hosted on a rotation basis by supporters of different Super League sides.
He said this year’s theme is about family bond and fair play which aims at attracting children and women to soccer games.
Katongo said the objective of hosting such tournaments was to bring soccer fans together under one umbrella to avoid fights and clashes at stadiums.
“The objective of this tournament is to bring fans together, under one umbrella so that we avoid clashes at the stadium,” he said. “We always have a theme every year. So like this year our theme is family bond and fair play.”
Katongo said the soccer tournament had attracted a number of sponsors with express credit being the headline sponsors.
He said each team contributed some participation fee towards the hosting of the one-day event and that the rest was given to the winners who chose a charity of their choice to donate to.
“Each team that participates contributes a fee and at end of the day the money is given to the winner who choose a charity of their choice because we discourage giving the winners money, but we instead tell them to donate to charity,” Katongo said.
“So we want to encourage women and children to be coming to the stadium freely because football is a uniting factor and should not divide us,” he said.
This year’s event has seen participation of supporters of various Super League teams which include Zanaco, Nkana, Power Dynamos, Nchanga Rangers and the referees’ team.
