ZAMBIA is faced with a challenge in agriculture as was evidenced during the last farming season where it experienced a poor rainfall pattern, Agricultural and Commercial Show Society of Zambia (ACSSZ) president, Caroline Silwamba, has said.

Speaking during the media workshop organized by the show society, Ms Silwamba said most parts of Zambia had been affected by the drought and that it was during the Agricultural and Commercial Show that information programmes like crop diversification were shared through seminars.

She said the show society gathered experts and farmers to best address the issue of crop diversification and that the media was encouraged to play a vital role in educating the citizenry on the immense benefits of embracing industrial development in the agriculture and commercial sectors.

The society president said that the media workshop was aimed at enhancing the publicity of the forthcoming  93rd Agricultural and Commercial Show set for  July 31 to 5 August 5.

“The workshop was conceptualized in the year 2016 as a platform for journalist to have robust interaction, exchange ideas, and engage well with the show society in order to enhance their overall professional competence.

“The media can help promote and project what experts present.  At this juncture, I wish to express my profound gratitude to you the media who have identified with us and supported our vision for a better show society, through proactive and responsible journalism, “she said.

Ms Silwamba said that the show society will not sustain this platform, but has plans to upgrade it as one of its core programs, in appreciation of the strategic role of the media in the promotion of the show.

The ACSZ media workshop under the theme “Embracing Industry Development: the role of media,” attracted more than twenty journalists from both print and electronic media.
