Corner those ritual killers

THE death of a young man who was brutally murdered in Lusaka’s Kanyama Township on the night of last Friday is heart-rending.

It is unfortunate that Lusaka is still experiencing suspected ritual killings when residents are still recovering from the trauma visited upon them by the spate of ritual murders that rocked George and Zingalume townships in 2015.

In what is suspected to be a ritual murder, a young man of Lusaka’s Kanyama Township died after his genitals were callously sliced off by his assailants.

On Friday, June 14, 2019 Chanda Simutanda, 28, was looking for the funeral house for a brother-in-law at night.

He had apparently got lost and met his fate sometime after 21:00 hours when he last communicated with a family member.

His body was found the next morning without private organs in what is believed to be a ritual murder.

As the young father was trying to find his way to the funeral house he ran into the murderers who might even have offered to take him there but attacked him immediately.

What wickedness!

How can people decide to end the life of a vibrant young man, an innocent soul just like that?

We commiserate with Chanda’s family, especially his widow, Maria, whom he has left with two-year-old toddler.

Police must not leave any stone unturned in their hunt for Chanda’s killers.

These beasts must be found, prosecuted and taken to the maximum security correctional facility where their ilk belong.

We appeal to members of the community in Chunga and surrounding townships to be alert and help police track down these morons because they are a danger to society.

They took advantage of someone who needed help in an area where he did not live instead of helping him.

The events that led to the young man’s killing makes the issue even more heart-breaking.

He had been constantly communicating with his father as he and the person who had accompanied him to Chunga from Kanyama Township to attend the funeral.

When it became dark Chanda’s father advised the two to return to Kanyama and return the next day when they was light to find the funeral house.

But Chanda told him that he would not have money to enable him to travel to Chunga again if he went back to Kanyama.

He therefore told his friend to go back saying he would remain to look for the funeral house.

However, the more the young man tried to search for the house the more lost he was.

Around 20:40 hours he even informed his father that he was more confused; that he had seen the concrete fence of the sewage ponds as his sister had directed him but from there he did not know where to go because the place looked completely different from the way he had left it some years back.

Mr Simutanda advised him to find the nearest police post and spend the night there until the next morning.

It was while he was trying to find the police post that the marauding killers pounced on him and killed in the most callous way, slicing off his private parts probably while he was still alive.

These murderers must know that they will never get away with this despicable murder.

Wherever they will be, no matter how long it takes, justice will finally catch up with them.
