WORKS which are being carried out by the Zambia National Service (ZNS) on the 9km access road to the Chirundu new government complex has won praise from the local leadership.
District Commissioner, Alfred Hamunjo, said he was impressed with the quality of works by ZNS.
Mr Hamunjo told the Sun in a telephone interview that the ZNS officers kick started the works yesterday and was more than sure the servicemen would complete the assignment as planned.
He expressed optimism that the development would lessen the transport challenges the people faced.
Mr Hamunjo thanked government through the ministry of lands and natural resources under the Land Development Fund for releasing funds so that the people of Chirundu had good township roads.
He also noted that the good machinery brought on site would not fail the officers do their project satisfactorily.
Meanwhile, Chirundu district council secretary Mr. Robison Sianduba said he was grateful that such great development was taking shape in the district.
Mr Sianduba said that people had been longing for this development for a long time and it was heartening that finally something was being done.
Speaking when he interacted with ZNS officers on site Mr Sianduba assured assured them of safety, support from the council and any help they would need.
And one of the ZNS officers who declined to be mentioned said the works were going on well as mapping had already been done with help from the council district planning officer Mr. Lazarous Ngoma.
He however said the only challenge he foresaw was the long distance of 13km where to get gravel sands, adding that about 1.5km had been worked on so far.
Meanwhile, a resident of Kadango Village Rhoda Moonga said she was happy with the works so far.
Ms Moonga said just seeing the machinery moving about gave one a sense of feeling that the area would have good access roads.
