Zambia lift u-17 handball trophy

MUKWIMA CHILALA writes

THE u-17 Zambia handball team were on Saturday crowned the 2019 IHF Trophy Zone VI champions after beating Mozambique 30-21.

Zambia were hosts of the games at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC), which attracted 11 other countries from Southern Africa.

The tournament drew hundreds of fans from around the centre who were on hand cheering the two local handball teams.

In the u-19 finals Team Zambia lost by 31-25 to eventual champions Madagascar.

Buoyed by morale and support from other participating countries, Madagascar kept scoring and eventually defeated the hosts despite being impressive in their last three games.

The tournament, which started on June 10, attracted participation from countries like Eswatini, Madagascar, South Africa, Seychelles, Malawi, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Botswana and the hosts, Zambia.
