SIMON MUNTEMBA writes

THROUGH photography, a Lusaka-based young photographer and chief executive officer (CEO) of Longway Pictures is able to pay his school bills, his workers’ wages and other obligations.

At the age of 21, Honesty Longwe, commonly known as ‘Longway’, is claiming his own niche as one of the best photographers in Zambia.

Long way

The 21 year-old Longwe, who is also a second-year student at Evelyn Hone College in Purchasing and supply, has employed three people under his Longway Pictures.

The Sun caught up with the young entrepreneur and below is the verbatim interview with him:

Sun: Tell us about yourself, who is Longway?

Longway: My name is Honesty Longwe. Logway actually comes from my sir name. I’m 21 years old, born on 19th February, 1998. I am the first born in a family of two boys and was raised by a single mother.

I am a student at Evelyn Hone College of Applied Arts and Commerce pursuing a Diploma in Purchasing and Supply.

Sun: When did you became a professional photographer and who have you worked with?

Longway: I started photography in 2017 just after a year of completing my Grade 12 at Kanini Secondary in Ndola. I started working as a photographer at Kupe Arts Media; then after a year I came to Lusaka and started up my own label called it Longway Pictures.

Under my label, I have employed three people on full-time to help me with work as I am also a student.

Sun: What makes you tick because we know it’s not easy to combine work and school as a young man?

Longway: I have so much passion for photography and I did not study anything concerning media for me to be where I am. It’s just passion and discipline.

Through photography I am now able to pay my school bills like accommodation and food and these other things. I have worked with Mr Chitambala Mwewa commonly known as Simon Mwewa lane, Kachinga Mr 260. On stage, I have also worked with Mi Casa, Cassper Nyovest, Chef 187, 408 Empire and many more.

Sun: What are your plans when you finish your studies at Hone?

Longway: Once I am done with school next year in July, I want to open up a studio of my own because right now I am just a mobile photographer, but working with a lot of people.
