OVER 600 motorists have been convicted in the Lusaka Fast Track Court on various traffic offences in May alone this year through RTSA.
According to RTSA public relations manager Mukela Mangolwa, the agency secured 609 convictions in the same court.
Mr Mangolwa said the highest convictions were for expired test certificate with 84 convictions, followed by expired road tax with 82 convictions, while use of hand held phone with 69 convictions.
He said that obstruction of roadway by motor vehicle convictions were 63, with dangerous driving netting 61 convictions, uninsured motor vehicles,51 convictions and unlicensed drivers posted 47 convictions.
Mr Mangolwa said other offences that resulted in convictions were unsecured load, failure to obey lawful instructions, failure to obey traffic signs, failure to secure a minor and failure to wear seatbelt.
He said the agency had in recent days also taken interest in offenders contravening regulations relating to use of seatbelts and failure to secure minors by prosecuting them as opposed to just fining to enhance compliance.
He reminded members of public to adhere to traffic rules and regulations as the Agency was committed to sustaining its traffic law enforcement programmes, which were being complemented with road safety education countrywide.
Mr Mangolwa also implored members of public to be proactive and make use of the RTSA Call Centre by reporting bad, careless and dangerous drivers on the Toll Free Line – 983 and the WhatsApp line 0965 429499.
