A CHEATING wife who had the habit of sleeping out and receiving love messages from her boyfriend despite being caught red-handed committing adultery with her husband’s brother-in-law was has been divorced.
Precious Haampekenya, 24, of Chilenje Township sued Nchimunya Nyemu, 29, of Chilenje Township for reconciliation but ended up getting the boot.
Haampekenya told the Chilenje Local Court that they got married in 2014 and have one child together.
Haampekenya said since they got married they had been having disputes.
“One time I withdrew money from my husband’s account and travelled to the village to visit his sister, but when I returned, he accused me of being a prostitute,” she said.
“He had found love messages on my phone from a man that had proposed to me. I never accepted that man. I wasn’t dating him but I apologised to my husband for the misunderstanding,” Haampekenya said.
“He said he had forgiven me but asked me to go and stay with my parents for the mean time,” she said.
Haampekenya said she had been waiting for her husband to ask her to return home but he didn’t.
“I bought a summons for reconciliation and it didn’t work out,” she said.
“We have been on separation for two months. I have brought him to court because I want the court to help me.”
The two were appearing before senior local court magistrate Ackim Phiri.
But Nyemu complained that his wife had been cheating on him from the time they got married.
He said he used to find love messages on her phone from different men.
“One time she withdrew money from the bank account and travelled to Monze without telling me. I didn’t know that she had a relationship with my sister’s husband,” Nyemu said.
“My own blood sister caught them committing adultery. My sister asked me to forgive my wife,” he said.
“I forgave her. She returned home and we continued living together. My wife started coming home at awkward hours until I found love messages from her other boyfriend,” he said.
“I followed it up and the man said he didn’t know that she was married. I informed her relatives of what happened,” Nyemu said.
He said Haampekenya’s parents refused and said he was lying.
Nyemu said he told her to apologise but she didn’t until he forced her in the presence of her relatives.
“When they left she came and apologised again and I forgave her. We continued staying together,” he said.
“On the 18th of April, 2019 I went for work. I gave her K500 for some groceries and allowed her to visit her parents just to refresh her mind,” he said.
“When I returned home, she was not there. I waited and waited but she didn’t come home. I was tipped by a friend and found her the following day with her boyfriend,” Nyemu said.
“I was upset and slapped her. I still begged her to come home but she didn’t. It is that same man who was pushing her to get a divorce,” he said.
Nyemu said Haampekenya did not want to leave her boyfriend.
They had never sat down from both families because his mother-in-law used to insult him whenever he reported their marital problems.
“It was proven here in court that she committed adultery. It’s better we divorce because she will never change,” he said.
The court granted divorce without any compensation for Haampekenya.
She was, however, granted custody of their children while Nyemu was ordered to be paying K200 child maintenance every month.
