WOMEN soccer in Zambia has immensely improved over the years as it is receiving good support from various stakeholders, says Red Arrows assistant women coach Edinasha Mambwe.
Mambwe said there had been so much improvement in women soccer in Zambia from the time league started in 2006.
She noted that the league had been receiving a lot of support from stakeholders such as FAZ and some other football academy owners.
“From the time I was playing soccer it wasn’t like this, we started in 2006 and have been improving as we are getting there,’’ she said.
She said there was support from other teams and academies which were also doing well, adding that FAZ too had been giving women soccer a lot of support.
Mambwe said that her team had provided players to the Under-17, Under-20 and senior national teams.
She said that Arrows had supplied four players to the under-17 national team preparing for COSAFA tournament to be held in Mauritius next month.
She further said the majority of the players in the senior women national soccer team came from Arrows which has provided about 12 of them.
‘’In the under 17 we have supplied 4 players, those who are going to Mauritius and in the senior national team they are a lot I think even more than 12 and under 20 they are 6 or 8 somewhere there,’’ she said.
She was confident that despite losing two games in the women national league, her team still had a chance of winning the league.
She said that the team was ready to cover up for the two losses it had suffered having so far having played 13 games and promised to work hard to catch up with Green Buffaloes who were the pacesetters.
