SPEEDY delivery of farming inputs by Nyimba Investments to Masaiti cheers Senior Chief Mushili who says the development will greatly contribute to the improved crop yields in the area.
The traditional leader said this at the weekend the company officials led by Head-sales and marketing Willings Mulendema paid a courtesy call of him.
Speaking through Prince Robert Lwebesha Mushili, the apparent heir to the throne, Chief Mushili said that he was happy that Nyimba had delivered the fertilizer on time during the past season, a scenario that led to the area recording good crop yields.
The traditional leader was particularly impressed that Nyimba Investments was currently restocking all its storage warehouses.
“We thank you Nyimba Investments for coming to our area and start restocking your warehouses on time and we pledge our total support to this noble cause that you are doing,
“And in a very big way you are contributing to the desires of the government to support agriculture. We also pray that the government gives you the necessary support so that you serve our people better,” said the traditional leader.
He said that in the previous season, farmers were able to purchase fertiliser on time owing to the quick delivery of the commodity and said that he was happy that Nyimba has replicated what it did during the last season.
The traditional leader said that he was also happy that Nyimba has started buying maize from the local farmers in the area.
He said that apart from ensuring that fertilizer was distributed on time, it was important that the produce was bought by credible institutions.
He said that once the grain was bought from the local farmers, Nyimba Investments and others should not rush to export the mealie meal but ensure that there were sufficient stocks for local consumption..
“We want to position ourselves early even if the government has not yet awarded contracts so that farmers can start buying the fertilizer . That way, our farmers will be able to plan well and this will contribute to good yields,” said Mr Mulendema.
