FAZ mourns Kalenga

MUKWIMA CHILALA writes

FAZ is saddened by the death of former National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ) board chairperson Mwamba Kalenga who died on Wednesday night, says communication manager Mwazi Chanda.

Chanda said Kalenga was a well-known personality in the game whose support for sports cut across all disciplines.

She told Sun Sport in a statement that his support for the KK11 and later Chipolopolo was conspicuous through his trademark Zambian flag attire at various stadia.

Meanwhile FAZ General Secretary Adrian Kashala has paid tribute to Kalenga who also once served as Zambia Amateur Boxing Federation chairperson and owned MK boxing stable in Matero.

Kashala wished Kalenga’s family and the sports fraternity God’s guidance as they mourned him.

Kalenga served as National Sports Council Zambia (NSCZ) board chairperson from 2013 to 2017.

In 2015, he was conferred with an honorary title of professor by the Emmanuel Christian University for his contribution to sports.

Kalenga, 71, died on Wednesday afternoon after collapsing at his home.

His son, Mwamba Kalenga Jnr confirmed that his father was rushed to Chingwere Clinic where he was pronounced dead..
