THE Chilenje Local Court has ordered a Lusaka boy to pay K5,000 for damaging a girl’s virginity and impregnating her.
Joseph Shilwami, 17, of Mayika Village, was sued by Christopher Mutamainda, 57, also of the same area.
Mutamainda said when he discovered that his daughter was pregnant, he called Shilwami and his family to discuss the matter.
He said the Shilwami denied impregnating the girl at first.
“He had refused that it wasn’t him that damaged and impregnated her. We tried to call them to discuss the way forward, but they did not show up,” Mutamainda said.
“I went to the headman so that he could help us, but as usual he [Shilwami] and his family did not come,” he said.
“He came to see me a few days ago after I had already bought a summons for him. I want him to compensate me for damaging my 16-year-old daughter,” Mutamainda said.
The the case was before senior local court magistrate Ackim Phiri sitting with presiding local court magistrate Patrick Nyirenda.
Shilwami admitted that he had slept with the girl and asked the court to help him in the case.
The court ordered Shilwami to pay a penalty of K5,000 with the first instalment of K1,000 effective June 2019.
