TWO men of Kabwe’s Makululu compound who admitted in the Kabwe Magistrates Court to stealing a motor vehicle engine worth K20, 000 and selling it to scrap metal dealers have been jailed for a total of 27 months.

Felix Bango 24 and Diamond Muleya 19 admitted stealing the engine, the property of Felix Moya on May 5.

When the matter came up for ruling before magistrate Sebastian Mwenya, the two readily pleaded guilty to the charge.

They explained that they stole the engine because it was damaged and took it to scrap metal dealers to sell.

Magistrate Mwenya then sentenced Bango to 1 year six months and Muleya got nine months respectively from the day of their arrest.

Magistrate Mwenya told the court that Bango had been handed a longer sentence because he incited Muleya to commit the crime.

In mitigation Muleya told the court that he committed the crime because he was incited to do so by his friend Bango and asked the court for leniency as he was a first offender.

And Bango in his mitigation pleaded with the court to exercise leniency because he was married man with children, adding that he was sorry for what he did and promised not repeat it in the future.

Magistrate Mwenya in passing judgement said he had taken into consideration what the duo had said in mitigation and that they were first offenders and convicted them accordingly.
