Isoka Correctional Facility in scabies outbreak

ABOUT 12 confirmed cases of scabies have been recorded at Isoka Correctional Facility in the past two weeks, say acting District health Director Dr Philip Munkonge.
Dr Munkonge said that the district had also recorded few isolated cases of the pandemic outside the Isoka Correctional Facility.
Dr Munkonge told the Sun in an interview said a good number of patients that we have received so far have been treated with scabies.
ā€˜ā€˜Isoka District health office has received reports from the community while others have been coming to the health facility with claims of scabies with signs and symptoms of rush and itching on their bodies but as at now we have confirmed cases of scabies at Isoka Correctional Facility,ā€ Dr Munkonge said.
Dr Munkonge said the situation had been contained within the prison facility to ensure that the epidemic did not spread to other areas outside prison.
He said the district health authorities were on high alert and were closely monitoring the situation and ready for any possible serious outbreaks.
ā€˜ā€˜As health office we are on high alert, we are working with surveillance officers who have intensified community visits in areas of potential outbreaks and educate them on how to handle the situation.ā€™ā€™ Dr Munkonge said.
Dr Munkonge has urged community members to report any suspected cases of scabies to the nearest health office.
He said the health office was working with Isoka Correctional Facility management to ensure that sanitation was upheld.
